Dance Convention FAQs
Observer bands can be purchased in advance either through your dance studio or by creating your own independent account through our DanceBug registration portal. Observer bands will also be sold on site at the merchandise table the day of the dance convention. Observer bands may be limited at larger events so plan accordingly.
Dancers registered for the Mini room will receive one FREE observer band to enter the mini room only. If you have additional dancers in the Junior or Teen rooms, you will need to purchase a separate observer band to view those classes.
We highly encourage dancers to participate in the room they were registered for. After the first class, if the dancer feels the class is too challenging or not challenging enough, they may see a Turn It Up Crew Member to switch rooms. Level changes are not guaranteed after the first class.
If your teachers are interested in taking class, you will register them as a TEACHER/ADULT. Registered teachers will receive a special band that allows them to participate in all level classes. Please contact our office for special teacher rates.
If your teacher just wants to view class and not participate, you can register them as an OBSERVER.
Every studio registration will receive one free Studio Director wristband. If you have more than one studio director attending, you will need to register the additional directors on your Dance Bug registration.
We offer 3 class levels, Mini (recommended for dancers ages 6-8), Junior (recommended for dancers ages 9-12), and Teen (recommended for dancers ages 12-18). Dancers age 12 can register for the Teen class if they are an advanced dancer and the junior class if they are an intermediate or beginner dancer. Studio directors can use their discretion when registering these dancers.
Dancers ages 19 and up must register as a Teacher/Adult and are ineligible for scholarship opportunities.
All are welcome to attend, and observer bands are not required. During this time, select Master Teachers will perform, scholarships will be awarded to selected dancers in all levels, and dancers will have the opportunity to score autographs and take photos with their favorite teachers.
Final convention schedules with class styles and teachers will be sent to the email on your DanceBug account 1 week prior to the event. Class styles may include, but are not limited to: Contemporary, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Tap, Fusion, Improv, and Technique.
Master Teachers will select outstanding dancers in each level room to receive National Dance Team invitations and Scholarship Dollars that can be used towards any future Turn It Up Dance Challenge Regional & National Competitions or Conventions. Teachers may also award stand out students assistant teacher scholarships to assist faculty at future conventions (not guaranteed at all events).
Dancer’s may choose to bring their own lunch and, in some instances, concessions may be available at select venues. More information about lunch recommendations for your specific event will be emailed to registered attendees about one week prior.
Water stations in the dance rooms are not guaranteed and vary depending on venue regulations. Please plan accordingly to provide your dancers with plenty of water for the day.
We currently hold conventions in Connecticut, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Missouri, New York, and Pennsylvania.
